New Installation on the KU Campus – A Space of Light for Togetherness

As Klaipeda University (KU) celebrates its 35th anniversary, the series of events dedicated to this important occasion continues. On Monday, November 17, the university campus officially unveiled light artist Linas Kutavičius’ installation “Dialogues of Light”. The opening event featured a special festive program with unique music and greetings addressed not only to the artist but also to students celebrating International Students’ Day.

It is hoped that the new installation will become an attraction not only for the KU community, but also for Klaipėda residents and visitors to the city. This composition of eight illuminated swings invites people to experience the light of togetherness and the joy of creativity, offering a wonderful space for meetings, conversations, and perhaps even inspiration for new ideas.

According to KU Rector Prof. Dr. Artūras Razbadauskas, Kutavičius’ work is a legacy for future generations.

“I thank everyone who helped bring this idea to life, and especially its author, L. Kutavičius, for his meaningful contribution to the future of KU and the city. I believe that by fulfilling the university’s third mission—showing our impact on the social environment and on the city—we will, through dialogue with the city, inspire young people who will come here to swing and think that this is a great place to study. ‘Here you are seen’ remains our guiding motto. It is especially meaningful that we are celebrating not only the university’s 35th anniversary but also International Students’ Day, so I extend my heartfelt greetings to our students on this wonderful occasion,” Prof. Dr. Razbadauskas said.

The author of “Dialogues of Light”, often called a light alchemist, Linas Kutavičius, emphasized the purpose of the work:

“I usually say that my works speak more than I do. I am very happy to be here—this is not only for children, because we all feel happy when we swing,” the creator noted.

According to KU Student Union President Olivija Vaidak, the installation will not only adorn the KU campus but will also remind us that inner light can be ignited through being together.

“As President of the KU Student Union, I am proud to see creativity becoming more visible at our university. This installation reflects the openness, playfulness, and courage to create that make our university vibrant. We also celebrate International Students’ Day—a reminder of the important place students hold at KU. You bring energy, innovation, and new perspectives. I wish each of you to find your own light here,” O. Vaidak emphasized.

The event featured a dance miniature performed by Mykhailo Mordasov, a ballet artist and dancer of the Klaipėda State Musical Theatre, together with KU students. Sound artist and electronic music composer Jonas Raudonius shared his musical compositions. The event was hosted by director Tomas Jašinskas.
